Abstract Text | Utilities and private laboratories test for a variety of bacteria in water including total coliforms and E. coli. There are many different methods for performing these required tests. Some of the more traditional methods (multiple tube fermentation, membrane filtration) can be time consuming and require confirmations. Enzymatic methods can reduce the amount of time spent running the methods and do not require confirmations. This presentation will include: Brief introduction to water microbiology, Method overview, IDEXX enzymatic tests (for total coliforms/E. coli), and Quality Control (QC) requirements. |
