Abstract Text | This presentation will focus on the impact health and environmental regulatory changes can have on project design when high-performance coating systems are utilized for corrosion control. Today, the application and use of high-performance coatings are by far the most cost-effective way to combat the varying effects of corrosion on concrete and various metal surfaces. Based on several factors, these materials and systems are selected to preserve and extend the practical service life of critical assets within a water and wastewater system. More recently, regulatory issues, such as, the adoption of the new NSF/ANSI/CAN 600 standard, regional volatile organic compound (VOC) limitations, PFAS and emerging contaminant considerations, and other related concerns are creating a need for owners and specifiers to reevaluate what they have traditionally known about the selection and specification of protective coatings for corrosion control. With a better understanding of these pressures and how they relate to preserving valuable infrastructure assets, owners and specifiers can be better prepared for the changing landscape. |
