Abstract Text

Looking to streamline its operations and reduce maintenance costs, the Jefferson County Environmental Services Department in Alabama developed a vertical asset management program for its water resource facilities and lift stations. The County collaborated with POWER Engineers, Krebs Engineering, and Waggoner Engineering to inventory and perform condition assessments on all critical assets. The project team also compiled equipment O&M manuals and developed standardized preventative maintenance plans, which were then loaded into Cityworks (the County's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)). As part of this project, a risk framework was developed that included several factors to measure each asset's Probability of Failure (POF) and Consequence of Failure (COF). The final Business Risk Exposure (BRE) scores were calculated using the GIS and Cityworks software (Operational Insights) and were ultimately presented to management in a Power BI dashboard. In this talk, the presenters will share the project drivers and methodologies used and will highlight the benefits realized as well as some lessons learned.
