Abstract Text | IMPROVING EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS IN PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENTS
PRESENTED BY: DR. MATTHEW KLEIN, VICE PRESIDENT – CHIEF OF FORESIGHT & STRATEGY WAGGONER ENGINEERING CHRIS PHILLIPS, TECHNICAL MANAGER WAGGONER ENGINEERING
While water and wastewater utilities confront some of the greatest technical challenges in a generation, they are having to do this amidst two historic human resource events; the retirement of many water and wastewater managers and executives (Silver Tsunami) and the abandoning of the job market by many working-class Americans (Great Resignation).
This session explores an organization’s vision of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Public Works Departments across the region.
Session attendees will follow one water utility’s two-year preparation for the retirement of their General Manager of 30 years, learn lessons from a 12-month period of transition to the new General Manager, and experience a post-mortem on the approaches, tools, and resources which have proven to be of great value through this process.
Presenters will include Area Manager, Matthew Klein, and Technical Manager, Chris Phillips, of Waggoner Engineering. Additional paper contributors will include Vice President – Support Services, Ronald Thompson, P.E., President - Water, Scott Phillips, P.E., and Project Engineer, Andrew Leeds, of Waggoner Engineering.
